Due to existing socio-economic conditions, cultural beliefs and traditional practices, women are more likely to be disproportionately affected, including increased loss of life and livelihoods and gender-based violence. Gender inequalities constrain their influence and control over decisions governing their lives as well as their access to resources and employment. 

Improving income with effective use of homestead land has a very strong contribution to women empowerment. It addresses many critical issues like nutrition, improved income, poverty reduction, sustainable and environmentally viable agricultural practices. Additionally, land-based livelihoods for women and girls ensure improved value of women and girls at family as well as community level.
